The Department of Anatomy carries out research and teaching in many areas of medical and life sciences. The research activities investigate function and structure of the different body systems at molecular, cellular and organ levels, at both normal and abnormal states, using modern biotechnological methods. The Department is equipped with facilities for molecular biology, immunocytochemistry, cell and tissue culture, and confocal and ultrastructural microscopy. The teaching comprises courses for medical, nursing, Chinese medicine, pharmacy, and biology curriculums. Gross anatomy, neuroscience, cell biology, histology, developmental biology and cytogenetics are taught. The Department has a very comprehensive collection of tailor-made anatomical specimens. Different methods are used for the teaching and learning of anatomy, including cadaver dissection and interactive computer learning. In both research and teaching, it has a wide web of collaboration with well-established institutes.

The Department of Anatomy has 10 full-time academics (excluding 3 instructors and 2 teaching assistants) and a sizable team of research personnel comprising research associates, technical staff, postdoctoral fellows, and postgraduate students. It offers M.Phil and Ph.D programs in a variety of research areas.
