Further Qualifications for Admission
In addition to the general qualifications required for admission to a PhD programme, applicants should normally have a Master's degree in a field related to life sciences or the degree of MBChB or equivalent.

All applicants must also fulfil the "English Language Proficiency Requirement" as stipulated by the Graduate School before being considered for admission. Please refer to the "Postgraduate Prospectus 2007-08" or Homepage: (http://www.cuhk.edu.hklgss) for details on such requirement.

Programme
The programme is research-oriented. Students should show ability for independent work and inform themselves in depth about the fields of knowledge relevant to the topic of their projects.

The requirements of the full-time programme, which normally take three years for students with a research Master's degree and four years for students without a research Master's degree to complete, are as follows:

In addition to satisfying the programme requirements and other requirements as prescribed by the Division, students will be required to pass the Qualifying Examination and submit a research thesis and pass an oral examination in order to graduate.

All the above requirements also apply to part-time students.

  • Development and Aging of the Mammalian Central Nervous System
  • Injury and Regeneration of the Central Nervous System
  • Motor Innervation of Skeletal Muscles and Effects of Toxins on Motor Neurons
  • Development and Degeneration of Retina
  • Hormonal Carcinogenesis of Prostate Gland and Study of Animal Models of Prostate Cancer
  • The Functions of Male Accessory Sex Glands in Mammals
  • Gene Regulation in Immune Cells
  • Molecular Biology of Embryo Development
  • Embryological Basis of Congenital Diseases
  • Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Congenital Malformation in Diabetic Pregnancy

Research : HK$31,575 per annum (Part-time)

Further Qualifications for Admission
In addition to the general qualifications required for admission to the Graduate School , applicants should have a recognized Bachelor degree normally in a field related to life sciences or the degree of MBChB or equivalent.

The "English Language Proficiency Requirement" for applicants for the MPhil programme are the same as those for the PhD programme.

Programme
The programme is research-oriented. The MPhil programme will follow a prescribed series of investigation, and students should inform themselves in depth about the fields of knowledge relevant to the topic of their projects.

The requirements of the programme normally take two years (full-time) to complete:

In addition to satisfying the programme requirements and other requirements as prescribed by the Division, students will be required .to submit a research thesis and pass an oral examination in order to graduate.
